Your rental expired because its viewing period ended, and you must rent it again to keep watching. Pausing does not stop that clock.
A digital rental is temporary access to stream a film for a limited time, not a copy you own. Most services give you a longer window to start the film, then a shorter window to finish once you press play. If the film vanished from your library, that second window likely closed.

Why does the film disappear mid-story?
Your rental has two clocks. One covers how long you can wait before starting.
The other covers how long you have to finish after you start. Closing the app, downloading the file, or pausing overnight does not pause the second clock. Once it runs out, the license locks and the title leaves your library.
Can you finish without renting again?
Open your library and select the title again. If the service allows a short restart, it will say so there.
In most cases an expired rental needs a fresh rental to continue. Then you can limit the extra cost and fuss: Refund and exception rules differ by store, so check that store's help page before you pay again.
- note the scene or time where you stopped
- start the new rental on the same account and device
- use the progress bar or chapter menu to jump back
How do you plan around the clock?
Start the film only when you have time to finish it soon. An evening feature, a long epic, and a series rewatch each need a clear viewing block.
Downloads help with travel or weak wifi, but they expire on the same schedule as streams. Keep the device online near the end of the window so the app can confirm your access correctly.
Should you rent or buy next time?
Rent fits a single viewing that you will finish quickly. Buy fits a favorite you will rewatch, share with family, or study scene by scene.
Buying usually keeps the film in your library much longer, but it is still a license tied to that store and account. If you will watch only once, start the film when you have time to finish it in one or two sittings.
