Knives Out (2019) Movie Runtime: Length, End Credits, and Available Versions

Knives Out (2019), the ensemble murder-mystery film, runs 130 minutes (2 hours 10 minutes) in its U.S. theatrical cut.

It has no post-credits scene, and its home editions carry the same cut rather than an extended version. That timing helps you plan an evening viewing with trailers and breaks. The rating and disc options below show who should attend with a parent and which format to buy.

How long is the theatrical cut?

The Numbers lists the U.S. theatrical cut at 130 minutes in its Knives Out data page, released November 27, 2019 by Lionsgate. Britain's regulator lists the cinema 2D version at 130m 3s, classified October 7, 2019, with no cuts made.

Lionsgate UK Ltd handled distribution. The Numbers, citing MPA Rating Bulletin 2597, rates the film PG-13 for thematic elements including brief violence, strong language, sexual references and drug material. That rating affects viewers under 13 without a parent.

Should you stay through the credits?

ScreenRant reports in its November 2019 explainer that Knives Out has no post-credits scene and no extra Easter-egg scene. The only exception is very faint barking-dog audio.

ScreenRant notes the killer's reveal occurs in the final pre-credits moments. You therefore miss no story payoff by leaving when credits start.

Which home version should you choose?

Media Play News states in its January 2020 home-release report that Lionsgate issued the same cut for home use. Digital arrived February 7, 2020, followed by 4K Ultra HD combo, Blu-ray combo, DVD and on-demand on February 25, 2020.

Those editions add supplements rather than an extended or director's cut. Collider notes they include two commentaries with Rian Johnson and deleted scenes.

  • Digital, February 7, 2020: same cut for early home viewing
  • 4K Ultra HD combo and Blu-ray combo, February 25, 2020: same cut plus commentaries and deleted scenes
  • DVD and on-demand, February 25, 2020: same cut for standard setups

Why does one UK listing look shorter?

The BBFC lists the UK physical-media version at 124m 50s in its classification listing, classified January 8, 2020. That shorter time reflects PAL speed-up rather than removed content.

PAL speed-up means the film plays slightly faster on that UK format, so the clock time drops. Do not mistake the shorter packaging time for a different cut. Pick by format, extras and player compatibility, not by the printed minutes.
