What is in development?
Writers Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn are developing the Halloweentown 5 script. The story builds on characters created by Paul Bernbaum, writer of the 1998 original.
TheWrap reported both the development and the Bernbaum connection. The current phase is script development at Disney Channel and Disney+.
Who are the new writers?
Just Jared reports Houghton previously wrote the 2026 horror-comedy Forbidden Fruits creative team report. Koehn previously worked on HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot.
Their backgrounds mix film comedy and teen television drama. That pairing fits a family movie series centered on a young witch.
How do the earlier films connect?
Brown returned as Marnie for Halloweentown II in 2001 and Halloweentown High in 2004. Just Jared notes Sara Paxton replaced her as Marnie in 2006's Return to Halloweentown.
The switch gives new viewers two versions of the lead. It also explains why casting talk matters to longtime fans.
Where would the sequel play?
If greenlit, the film is planned to air on Disney Channel and stream on Disney+. Variety, via Just Jared, links the project to Disney Channel and Disney+ family audiences.
For now, viewers can take practical steps while Disney decides on production. The four earlier films offer the fastest refresher before any sequel. MovieWeb points to rewatching the earlier films while Disney considers the sequel viewing guide.
- Rewatch the four prior Halloweentown films in story order.
- Follow Disney announcements for cast and production timing.
- Expect Disney Channel and Disney+ as the planned home if ordered.
