What did Crime 101 cost?

TheWrap places the production budget at $90 million, before marketing and distribution costs, in its box-office analysis. That figure covers making the film, not selling it or placing it in theaters. Theatrical break-even therefore requires roughly double that gross.

The high budget raised the bar for ticket sales. A $90 million thriller must play like a much larger grosser to cover production alone. Marketing and theater splits push the true break-even higher.

How big was opening weekend?

Scope Weekly reported a $15.1 million opening over three days and about $17.7 million over the four-day Valentine's/Presidents Day frame in its Valentine's weekend battle report. It finished behind Wuthering Heights and GOAT that weekend.

That start left little room for error on a $90 million budget. The film needed strong holds to climb toward production cost. Its later path showed holds, but growth stayed slow.

Where did the final gross come from?

Box Office Mojo, the primary box-office tracker, lists the final worldwide total at $72,900,246 in its final worldwide total. TalkAndroid, summarizing Box Office Mojo, puts about $37 million from domestic theaters and about $35-36 million from abroad. The split was roughly even between home and overseas.

Mid-run tracking showed $30 million domestic after 17 days for $57.1 million worldwide. A later checkpoint reached $36.3 million domestic plus $34.36 million overseas for $70.7 million. Koimoi, citing Box Office Mojo, reported both stages and noted slow but steady legs.

Did theaters cover the budget?

Collider reported in its April 2026 Prime Video report that the about $71-73 million gross left production costs unrecouped theatrically. That shortfall affects Amazon MGM's theatrical return. Streaming and home release may offset part of the gap. Budget and gross figures are reported estimates.

They exclude marketing and theater splits and change as trackers finalize. Readers should treat Box Office Mojo as the current reference and judge profitability after streaming and disc. Rotten Tomatoes lists the theatrical date and Geek Vibes Nation lists the disc plan. The film was listed for April 1 streaming and June 30, 2026 disc.

  • Compare the $90 million budget to worldwide gross, not opening alone.
  • Check Box Office Mojo for the latest finalized total.
  • Factor April 1 streaming and June 30, 2026 disc when judging full return.
