The short version: The chart figures below are Box Office MojoAll figures below are Box Office Mojo’s, read on October 11,rsquo;s, read on October 11, and cover films released in 2026. Brand New Day is also now the top domestic grosser of all time. The domestic year passed $8 billion on Friday, October 9, according to The Hollywood Reporter, 19.6 percent ahead of the same point in 2025.

The highest grossing movies of 2026 worldwide

This is Box Office Mojo’s worldwide release-group chart for 2026, sorted by global gross. Domestic means the U.S. and Canada; the difference between the two columns is the international take.

# Film (domestic distributor) Worldwide Domestic
1 Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Sony) $2,512,865,567 $956,865,567
2 The Odyssey (Universal) $1,779,770,790 $622,972,790
3 Toy Story 5 (Disney) $1,148,032,461 $480,294,461
4 Michael (Lionsgate) $1,028,703,388 $372,303,388
5 The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Universal) $1,012,608,467 $429,814,610
6 The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Disney) $693,255,651 $220,556,651
7 Project Hail Mary (Amazon MGM) $684,489,947 $344,050,007
8 Pegasus 3 $656,459,523 $1,374,946
9 Minions & Monsters (Universal) $526,259,745 $183,171,260
10 Obsession (Focus Features) $522,198,470 $263,451,715

Five films cleared $1 billion worldwide by the time of this check, and, by our count, the gap between first and second is larger than the entire worldwide gross of the sixth-place film. Box Office Mojo’s chart also shows how much of each total came from abroad: just 38.1% of Brand New Day’s gross is domestic, while Project Hail Mary and Obsession split almost evenly, with domestic shares of 50.3% and 50.5%.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s record run

Sony released Destin Daniel Cretton’s film on July 31, with Tom Holland back as Spider-Man and Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal in the cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it opened to $360 million domestically, beating Avengers: Endgame for the biggest domestic opening weekend ever, led the domestic chart for its first six weekends, and was the second film after Endgame to reach $1 billion globally so quickly.

On September 16 The Hollywood Reporter reported that, after 47 days, it had passed the $936.6 million of Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film ever in North America. Box Office Mojo now has it at $956,865,567 domestic. On the all-time worldwide chart, it ranks third, behind Avengers: Endgame and Avatar.

The Odyssey, Toy Story 5 and the rest of the billion-dollar films

The Odyssey (Universal, July 17) is Nolan’s adaptation of Homer, and at $1,779,770,790 worldwide it is 11th on Box Office Mojo’s all-time worldwide list. Its domestic gross, $622,972,790, is the year’s second-largest.

Toy Story 5 (Disney and Pixar, June 19) leads the animated films with $1,148,032,461 worldwide. Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, released April 1, is close behind at $1,012,608,467, giving the animated sequels two of the five billion-dollar slots.

Michael (Lionsgate, April 24), the Michael Jackson biopic, is the outlier: a music biography with $1,028,703,388 worldwide, almost two-thirds of it from outside North America. Our Michael box office breakdown tracks its run in more detail.

Just below the billion-dollar tier, two very different films are, by our count, less than nine million dollars apart. The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Disney, May 1) has $693,255,651 worldwide, 68.2% of it international. Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary is just behind on $684,489,947 but has the larger domestic gross of the two, $344,050,007 against $220,556,651. Universal’s Minions & Monsters, released July 1, sits ninth with $526,259,745.

Domestic top 10: where the lists differ

Ranked by domestic gross alone, the order shifts. Box Office Mojo’s domestic chart for 2026 has Project Hail Mary (Amazon MGM, March 20) sixth on $344,050,007, ahead of The Devil Wears Prada 2. Two horror releases make the domestic top 10: Focus Features’ Obsession, seventh on $263,451,715, and A24’s Backrooms, ninth on $197,523,513. Our profile of Obsession director Curry Barker covers how that one happened. The Hollywood Reporter called 2026 “a triumphant box office year for horror titles, particularly original ones.”

The worldwide list includes films with almost no North American release. Pegasus 3, eighth worldwide with $656,459,523, made $1,374,946 domestically, so 99.8% of its gross came from abroad. Two more, Once Upon a Time in the Middle East and Kung Fu Soccer, have no domestic gross on the chart at all and still sit in the worldwide top 15.

Why some big films are missing

Year charts count a film in the year it was released. Avatar: Fire and Ash opened on Dec 19 of last year, so it does not appear on the 2026 worldwide list, even though Box Office Mojo’s domestic calendar-gross chart shows $153,986,141 of its $404,340,010 domestic total earned in 2026. Re-releases follow their own rules: the Avengers: Endgame encore that put the 2019 film back at the top of the all-time chart in October is counted toward Endgame’s lifetime total, not as a new 2026 release in the top 10 above.

Different trackers can also disagree by small amounts, because they update at different times and treat international estimates and currency rates differently; our guide to what domestic, international and worldwide totals include explains the categories.

How 2026 compares with 2025

The Hollywood Reporter’s October 11 weekend report put the domestic year at $8.077 billion through Sunday, up 19.6 percent from the $6.7 billion at the same point in 2025. It also reported Sony’s Resident Evil at $320.2 million worldwide, the franchise’s best. Summer did most of the work: The Hollywood Reporter put the global summer total at $4.765 billion, the highest-grossing summer ever, beating the record from 2013.

The remaining weeks of the year could still reshape the bottom of the top 10. Lionsgate’s Hunger Games prequel arrives November 20, and Disney’s Avengers: Doomsday arrives December 18, per NPR. For one of the year’s more unusual hits, see our Project Hail Mary box office page.
