Will Spider Become a Villain in Avatar 4?
Fans of the Avatar movies have been buzzing about Spider, the human kid played by Jack Champion. In the first two films, Spider is caught between two worlds. He is the son of Colonel Miles Quaritch, the big bad guy from the original movie who came back in a Na’vi body. At the same time, Spider lives with Jake Sully’s family on Pandora, even though Neytiri does not trust him because he is human. This split loyalty makes him a key player in the story.
James Cameron, the director, almost wrote Spider out of the sequels. He told AOL that shooting scenes with a small human actor next to giant Na’vi in motion capture suits was a nightmare. Without Spider, the plot boiled down to just Jake and Quaritch fighting, which felt too basic. Cameron scrapped those drafts because the story fell apart. Spider stayed, and his role grew bigger.
In Avatar: The Way of Water, Spider helps the Sullys but also saves Quaritch, showing his torn feelings. Things ramp up in Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third movie. Spider gains special powers there. He can now breathe Pandora’s toxic air and grows his own queue, the Na’vi braid that links them to animals and Eywa, the planet’s spirit. This makes him super useful to the RDA, the human invaders who want to colonize Pandora. For more on Spider’s changes, check this AOL article.
Jack Champion talked about his character’s arc in Fire and Ash. He has two father figures pulling him apart: Jake as a hero dad and Quaritch as a villain dad. This duel creates a richer story for Spider, full of tough choices. Champion shared these details in an exclusive with MovieWeb.
Avatar 4, set for release after Fire and Ash, picks up from there. Spider’s new abilities put him right in the middle of the war. The RDA sees him as a prize because he bridges human and Na’vi worlds. Quaritch wants him on his side, while the Sullys need his help. Will this push Spider over the edge to join the villains? Cameron has not spilled the full plot yet. Spider’s split loyalty hints at a dark turn, but it could go either way. His growth in the third film sets up big conflicts for the fourth.
