Will Quaritch Become a Hero in Avatar 4?
Colonel Miles Quaritch has been the big bad guy in the Avatar movies since the first one. Played by Stephen Lang, this tough Marine came back as a Na’vi recombinant in Avatar: The Way of Water. Fans love to hate him, but some wonder if he might turn into a hero by Avatar 4. Lets look at what we know from recent talks and news.
Stephen Lang loves playing Quaritch. In a December 2025 interview ahead of Avatar: Fire and Ash, he said James Cameron keeps bringing him back because the character adds to the story. Lang called himself Quaritchs greatest advocate. He enjoys stirring things up in Pandoras world, which Cameron built to feel so real and full of imagination. Check out the full chat here.
Avatar 4 is coming, with James Cameron directing it. Details are thin, but Quaritch is expected to stick around for more revenge against Jake Sully and the Na’vi. One report says he may continue his revenge plot, keeping him as the villain. More info on Avatar 4 plans at this link.
Lang himself is open to more. In an exclusive talk with Digital Spy, he said presuming there is another stage to Quaritchs journey, I would certainly be up for taking it. He called the experience extremely rewarding. Read that here.
But will Quaritch flip to hero? Nothing points to that yet. He has shown small soft spots, like hinting at family ties in past films. Lang even joked about being a kick-ass grandpa in interviews. Still, his main role is to push conflict. Avatar 4 news updates suggest more of the same epic fights. Latest on future movies right here.
Quaritch keeps the story exciting by being the guy who does the dirty work. Cameron sees value in him as the antagonist. Until new trailers or scripts leak, expect him to stay on the dark side, not switch to hero.
