Avatar 5, titled Avatar: Fire and Ash, hit theaters in December 2025, and it packs some shocking deaths that shake up the story. The film picks up right after the events of Avatar: The Way of Water, with Jake Sully and his family still mourning the loss of their son Neteyam. Early in the movie, a fleet of flying merchant ships shows up near the Metkayina clan. Jake and Neytiri make Spider leave with them for safety, but things go wrong fast when the aggressive Mangkwan tribe, also called the Ash People, ambushes the convoy. Led by their tsahik Varang, these Na’vi set the ships on fire, loot everything, and kill off any survivors they find. This splits up Jake, Neytiri, and the kids, leading to tense rescues and alliances. Details on this chaos come from the film’s Wikipedia entry at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_Fire_and_Ash.
One big scare hits Spider, the human kid raised by the Na’vi. His oxygen mask battery dies while he’s escaping, and he collapses from lack of air. Luckily, Kiri uses her special connection to Eywa by linking her queue to the ground in a trance. This wraps Spider’s body in mycelia, giving him the power to breathe Pandora’s air without a mask anymore. No one dies there, but it’s a close call that changes him forever.
The action ramps up with Colonel Miles Quaritch and RDA forces getting involved. RDA biologist Ian Garvin tries to warn against bad plans but gets ignored. Neytiri sneaks into the RDA base, and Ian steals a bulldozer to bust Jake out. Spider helps by acting as a human shield, since the RDA sees him as valuable for research. Jake and Neytiri even argue about Spider, with Jake almost killing him before Neytiri steps in and accepts him as family.
In the huge finale, Kiri, Spider, and Tuk team up to call on Eywa through warrior powers. This unleashes Pandoran wildlife on the RDA ships. Varang goes after Neytiri, but Kiri saves her mom. Then a toruk takes down the RDA flagship in a wild magnetic flux, wiping out General Ardmore in the blast. Jake and Quaritch get tossed into the flux and duke it out, with Spider chasing after them. While Ardmore bites it here, the movie leaves Jake, Quaritch, and others in a cliffhanger fight with no clear deaths confirmed for the Sullys or main heroes.
