Avatar 5 has not been officially detailed yet by James Cameron or 20th Century Studios, but based on the storyline of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which came out in 2025, it will likely pick up right after its dramatic events. In Fire and Ash, Jake Sully and his family deal with deep sadness after their son Neteyam’s death from the previous movie. They have joined the Metkayina clan by the sea, but Neytiri grows to hate humans even more. A group of flying merchant ships shows up, and Jake, Neytiri, and Spider are forced to leave the clan with the kids. For more on the series buildup, check out this Avatar recap video.
Things get wild when the Mangkwan tribe, also called the Ash People, attacks those ships. Led by the tough tsahik Varang, these Na’vi are aggressive and reject Eywa, the planet’s life force. They burn the ships, steal everything, and kill survivors. This splits up Jake, Neytiri, and the children. Colonel Miles Quaritch, the human villain in a Na’vi body, teams up with Jake by chance to find the kids. Spider, the human boy raised by Na’vi, runs out of oxygen mask power and nearly dies, but Kiri uses her special connection to the ground to save him. He ends up breathing Pandora’s air without a mask thanks to some plant magic. Visit the official site at avatar.com for trailers showing the Ash People and new Pandora spots.
Back at the RDA base, where humans mine the planet, biologist Ian Garvin warns against bad plans but gets ignored. Neytiri sneaks in, Ian steals a bulldozer to free Jake, and Spider helps them escape by acting as a shield since the RDA wants him for science. Jake and Neytiri fight over Spider at first, but she finally accepts him as family. Kiri, Spider, and little Tuk call on Eywa’s warrior side, sending wild animals to attack RDA ships. Varang tries to kill Neytiri but Kiri saves her. A huge toruk bird wipes out the main RDA ship in a wild energy storm, taking out General Ardmore. Jake and Quaritch get pulled into the storm and battle, with Spider chasing after them. The full plot details are on Wikipedia.
Avatar 5 will probably focus on what happens next in that big fight between Jake and Quaritch, plus how the family recovers from more losses. Expect more about Spider’s new breathing power, Kiri’s Eywa links, and clashes with the Ash People. Neytiri questions everything after her grief, the kids like Lo’ak, Tuk, and Tsireya step up, and old friends like the tulkun Payakan return big time. Quaritch and Spider’s weird father-son bond gets deeper too. Cameron loves building Pandora with new clans and dangers, so fire-themed Ash People and RDA pushes will lead into bigger threats.
