Is the RDA Still the Main Threat in Avatar 4?

In the Avatar series, the RDA has long been the big bad guys, the human corporation hungry for Pandora’s resources. But after Avatar: Fire and Ash, fans wonder if they still hold that top spot heading into Avatar 4. The movie shook things up by bringing in new enemies, making the fight more complicated for Jake Sully and his family.

Avatar: Fire and Ash introduced the Ash People, a group of Na’vi led by Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. These folks are different from the peaceful clans we know. They want to burn everything down and don’t believe in Eywa, the planet’s spiritual force. Varang teams up with Colonel Miles Quaritch, the RDA’s tough guy brought back in a Na’vi body. Their goal lines up: the RDA wants to colonize Pandora, and the Ash People are all about destruction. You can read more about this alliance in this Inverse article that breaks down the ending.

The RDA is still evil, focused on hunting Tulkun, those smart whale-like creatures. But humans can’t breathe Pandora’s air easily, so their attacks aren’t as direct as before. Things get personal when Spider, Quaritch’s human son raised by the Sullys, learns to breathe without a mask. He becomes a prime target for the RDA. Jake spends a lot of time battling Quaritch in wild fights, like one in a magnetic vortex that wrecks RDA ships.

At the same time, a video game expansion called Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora – From the Ashes shows the RDA allying with the Ash clan again. Na’vi warrior So’lek faces them after an ambush, highlighting how these ruthless Na’vi fight dirty for power. Check out this trailer for a look at that threat.

James Cameron promised a fresh big enemy in Fire and Ash, but some say the new tribe didn’t fully deliver as the ultimate danger. Still, Quaritch escapes death, and Varang survives, setting them up for more trouble. Quaritch might even get a redemption story, which could shift things. A MovieWeb piece points out how the threats evolved.

Videos like this Top 10 recap remind us the RDA’s push, from destroying Hometree to Quaritch’s return, keeps them central. With Na’vi turning against their own kind, the RDA might not be alone at the top anymore. Avatar 4 could see Varang step up bigger, or the RDA doubling down through Quaritch.
