Alien Ending Explained
The 1979 movie Alien ends with Ripley surviving alone against the deadly creature from space. After the Nostromo ship is infected by the xenomorph, most of the crew dies one by one. Ripley finds out the ship’s computer was secretly ordered by the company Weyland-Yutani to bring back the alien alive, no matter the cost to humans[5]. She fights back by setting the ship to self-destruct and escapes in the shuttle Narcissus with her cat Jones.
In the final scenes, Ripley wakes from hypersleep and realizes the alien hitched a ride. She puts on a spacesuit to protect herself. The xenomorph is hiding in the shuttle’s walls. Ripley opens the airlock to blow it out into space. The creature tries to grab her, but she uses the suit’s thrusters to push it away. Its inner jaw almost gets her, but she grabs a harpoon gun and spears it right through the head. Acid blood sprays, but since they are in space, it does not damage the shuttle. The alien floats away dead as Ripley watches. She then records a report to the company about the lost crew and settles back into hypersleep with Jones, heading to Earth.
This ending sets up the whole Alien series. It shows Ripley’s strength and hints that Weyland-Yutani will keep chasing xenomorphs for their power. Fans love how it mixes horror with smart survival moves. Sigourney Weaver later talked about why no Alien 5 with Ripley and Newt happened. She said Ridley Scott wanted control back and focused on his prequels like Covenant insteadhttps://www.slashfilm.com/2039630/why-neill-blomkamp-alien-5-movie-died-explained-sigourney-weaver/[3].
