Gotham City became the League’s target in Batman Begins. The organization believed the city had descended into such moral decay, crime, and corruption that it could not be repaired through conventional means. This assessment led them to develop an elaborate two-part plan for Gotham’s destruction. First, they would poison the city’s water supply with a powerful hallucinogen to exploit the city’s weaknesses and push it toward self-destruction. The League’s leader, Ra’s al Ghul, initially attempted to recruit Bruce Wayne into their cause. Ra’s believed Bruce could become their instrument for carrying out Gotham’s destruction. Bruce trained with the League under the guidance of Henri Ducard, learning to master combat, stealth, and the use of fear as a weapon. However, when Bruce discovered the League’s true intentions for his city, he refused to join them. This rejection proved crucial, as Bruce would eventually become Batman and work to stop the League’s plan.
