Is Spider Safe at the End of Avatar: Fire and Ash?

In Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third movie in James Cameron’s epic series, Spider ends up safe and fully accepted by the Na’vi world. For more details on the plot, check out this breakdown from Looper.

Spider, the human teen raised by the Sully family and son of the villain Quaritch, faces huge dangers throughout the film. Humans from the RDA capture him after he gains a special ability to breathe Pandora’s toxic air without a mask, thanks to Kiri’s powers. They want to experiment on him to let more humans invade the planet. Jake Sully gets captured too, and both are held at a human base. Neytiri sneaks in with help from Dr. Ian Garvin, a marine biologist played by Jemaine Clement, and frees them both. See the full escape scene explained here: TechRadar.

Tensions rise when Jake thinks about killing Spider to protect Pandora from humans learning his secrets. Neytiri had suggested it earlier, but she stops Jake, and he chooses to spare his adopted son. They fight on, with big battles against Quaritch, the Fire Na’vi leader Varang, and RDA forces. Kiri takes out Varang, and in a wild moment, Jake and Quaritch team up briefly to save Spider from danger. The Sullys corner Quaritch, who jumps off a ledge into a storm, likely dying for good this time. A detailed fight recap is available at SFF Gazette.

By the end, Pandora is safe from the immediate threats. Humans and key bad guys like Scoresby and General Ardmore are defeated. Jake becomes Toruk Makto, uniting the clans for victory. The Sully family grows when Neytiri agrees to raise Ronal’s newborn after the Metkayina leader dies in battle. Most importantly for Spider, Kiri guides him into the spirit world, or ancestral plane. There, he connects with Eywa on his own and meets spirits like Neteyam and Grace Augustine. The spirits welcome him as a true Na’vi, even though he looks human. His body now has Pandora’s mycelium network flowing through it, making him belong neither fully to humans nor Na’vi, but to the planet itself. This moment shows Jake and Neytiri fully embracing him as family. For setup to future films, read this analysis: Inverse.

Spider survives all the captures, experiments, and battles without lasting harm. He finds his place among the Na’vi, safer than ever as part of the Sully clan and Pandora’s spiritual network. More on Quaritch’s fate and loose ends at Radio Times and Collider.
