What waiting actually costs
The money is only half of it. The other half is the theatrical window — how long you would be waiting, and what you give up by waiting.
Windows have shortened
The traditional gap between cinema and home release was around 90 days. It is now commonly much shorter, and varies by studio and by film. A title that would once have taken three months may reach digital rental in a matter of weeks.
That makes waiting far cheaper than it used to be — which is exactly why the going-out decision is now about the experience rather than access.
What you cannot get later
Scale and sound are the honest arguments for going. A film shot for large-format presentation loses something specific at home, and no subscription recovers it.
The other thing you cannot recover is watching it before everyone else has told you what happens.
